The General Election Commission of Mongolia is a full-fledged, independent, self-governing, permanent central electoral body that conducts a State Great Hural’s and Presidential elections and referendums throughout country and works on collective management principle.
The General Election Commission of Mongolia provides professional and methodological guidance in organizing and preparing the elections for Hural of the Citizen Representatives of province, capital city, soum and district level.
Originally, the Commission was first established by the Resolution No. 18 of April 10, 1992 of the State Baga Hural of Mongolia with 15 members.
On January 12, 2006 the State Great Hural of Mongolia approved the Law on the Central Election Management Body in accordance with the Constitution of Mongolia. The legal status, organization and activities of the General Election Commission of Mongolia have been confirmed by this independent law.
Since 2024 the General Election Commission of Mongolia is structurally re-organized. And newly established Chancellery of the Commission is composed of Administration and Management Department, Legal Department, Information, Research and Training Center, Political Parties’ Information and Methodological Department, Political Parties’ financing and Monitoring Department and Finance Division.
The Information Technology Center was established in 2021 by the Resolution No. 20 of the General Election Commission of Mongolia. It consists of Administration and Finance division, Software and Hardware service division and Technical support division.
